The Colour of Garfield

2025

Cotton, acrylic paint, borrowed tin cup, concrete, cat kibble, erasers, wax, synthetic dye, rose tea, tesera, found ceramic tile, raw terracotta, giclée art print on cotton rag, biro, notebook, plastic, metal.

Solo exhibition presented at Yellow Brick, Athens, Greece.

A massive thank you to the gentle force that is Vasiliki Sifostratoudaki (Founder Director of Yellow Brick).

An orangey yellow
that’s the right colour
it’s the right cat.
sleepy, tough, hungry
comedic.

The colour now washes
over everything.

Of sleeping
and dreaming
with things
A length of fabric,
walnuts in their shell
river eucalyptus
the Greek strawberry tree.

My bear, my Ursa
also now orange
and drenched in rose tea.

The exhibition has an opening
but only for cats
I’m inviting the locals
but I really want my
courtyard cat
family to come
especially my favourite
the small blind one.

How to see without looking?

Trying to tumble backwards while drooling into my pillow?

I’ve been trying
trying to get to that
raw spooky magic
running faster than the
editor
that’s what CA Conrad said.
You know I saw them here?
And Judith Butler.

Dreams of water
always water
floods, waterfalls
rushing.
And tea
tea streaming out of its cup
into the mouth
of the sky bear.

My sky bear
my protector
and confidant
I wear his cloak
just like the girls did
in the cult
of Artemis.

(Vasiliki has her bear too
a little white one
from when she was also
little).

Thank you
Ursa
for holding me while I
stretched back
using the 𝜗 to
bend
and fall and
melt myself
into a puddle
so to be
lapped from.
